Home Remedies with Medicinal Plants

Other than the leaves, medicinal plants also have other parts that can be used. These include roots, tubers and stems as well as leaves. Although medicinal plants cannot replace clinically-tested medical drugs, they offer many benefits that are worth noting.

Indonesia is a tropical country with many natural resources. There are many types of plants that can be used for natural medicine. Many Indonesian families have long cultivated medicinal plants.

Different Types of Medicinal Plants There are many types of medicinal plants that can be used to treat different diseases. Here are some examples:

1. Cinnamon
Cinnamon is more than just a spice for cooking. It can also be used to lower fasting glucose levels in prediabetes patients and type 2 diabetics.

Cinnamon has been shown to have other health benefits such as relieving pain from urinary tract infections and joint inflammation due to arthritis. It is also thought to prevent dementia.

2. Turmeric
Patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis may experience less pain and swelling by eating turmeric or products made with turmeric.

Turmeric may also be used to treat a variety of diseases such as diabetes, gum disease and colitis.

While turmeric has many health benefits, it is best to not take too much. High doses of turmeric can lead to side effects such as nausea and diarrhea.

3. Ginseng
Ginseng, a medicinal herb, is believed to lower blood sugar levels for people with type 2 diabetes.

Ginseng is believed to help lower blood sugar, boost immunity, reduce fatigue, increase energy and decrease the risk of developing cancer.

4. Cardamom
Cardamom’s high level of antioxidants has been shown to lower blood pressure. Cardamom’s anti-inflammatory (antiinflammatory) content is believed to also be capable of protecting cells from damage and fighting inflammation. However, further research and evidence are needed to prove the medicinal benefits of this single plant.

5. Cat whiskers
One of the best herbal remedies for kidney stones is cat whiskers. This plant is believed to be capable of stimulating the kidneys to expel urine and preventing the formation of minerals or salts in the kidneys.

It is still being investigated whether cat whiskers can be used to treat and prevent many diseases such as diarrhea, inflammation, and intestinal problems.

6. Temulawak
Ginger is believed to have many health benefits in Indonesia.

Ginger roots and leaves are believed to increase appetite. They can also be used to treat indigestion, flatulence, and irritable bowel syndrome.

While medicinal plants have many benefits, they are not meant to be used in place of medical treatment. Before you consume medicinal plants, consult your doctor. Because side effects can be dangerous and cause harm, improper use of herbal medicine can lead to serious health problems.
